When good news travels, it’s usually because someone has done something truly remarkable. That’s exactly what happened with Ayoka Roqeebat Kazeem, a proud alumna of Lagos State University (LASU), who recently made headlines by becoming the first-ever car winner on the Yoruba game show, Masoyinbo. Ayọka from the Department of Linguistics, African Languages and Communication Arts, Faculty of Arts, served as Secretary of the Yorùbá and Linguistics Students’ Association, where she was widely recognised for her brilliance, leadership, and passionate commitment to the promotion of indigenous language and culture. The event, which took place at the Eko venue, wasn’t just another gathering; it was a celebration of culture, language, and the power of knowledge. Ayoka’s win is especially significant because she set a new record, showing that with a bit of courage and a lot of smarts, anyone can make history. The moment she was announced as the winner, the atmosphere was electric, filled with cheers, applause, and even a few happy tears. It’s not every day you see someone drive away with a brand-new car, especially on a show that’s all about celebrating Yoruba heritage and intellect.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has congratulated Ayọka Roqeebat, describing her as a shining ambassador of LASU whose success on the show reflects the value that LASU has ingrained in her.
Her story is now inspiring many young people, especially students and alumni of LASU, to believe in themselves and take bold steps. It also shows that your culture can open doors you never imagined. If this story has inspired you, maybe it’s time to take a chance on something new, who knows, you might be the next headline!
