The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 44-year-old businessman, Ezemokwe Chukwuebuka Christian, for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine by ingesting 53 wraps of the drug.
Ezemokwe was taken into custody on Saturday, June 7, at Port Harcourt International Airport while preparing to board a Qatar Airways flight to Tehran, Iran, with a stopover in Doha. A body scan conducted by authorities revealed narcotics in his system, leading to his placement under close observation. Following this, he expelled the drugs in six separate batches, amounting to a total weight of 1.172 kilograms.
According to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday, June 15, Ezemokwe confessed to being involved in a drug trafficking network operating between West Africa and Iran for the past two years. The statement noted that this arrest follows a similar incident just two weeks prior, where another businessman, Chinedu Leonard Okigbo, aged 60, was intercepted at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport while attempting to travel to Iran with 65 pellets of cocaine swallowed in a similar manner. The NDLEA continues to combat drug trafficking networks and emphasizes its commitment to ensuring safety and security in the region.
