Tinubu Visits Benue Hospital to Console Victims of Yelewata Attack

President Bola Tinubu paid a visit to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, to meet with survivors of last Friday’s devastating attack in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area. The attack, reportedly carried out by suspected armed herders, left over 200 people dead and many others injured. Upon arrival at the Tactical Air Command of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi, Tinubu went straight to the hospital where several victims are receiving treatment, offering words of comfort and solidarity to those affected by the violence, and providing humanitarian response.

The President’s visit is a signal of his administration’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the persistent crisis plaguing rural communities in Benue and the Middle Belt. After meeting with the injured, Tinubu proceeded to the Benue State Government House Banquet Hall for a high-level stakeholder meeting. This gathering brought together state governors, security chiefs, community leaders, and representatives of affected communities to discuss coordinated strategies for peace and security. Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue, the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and key national figures were all present, underlining the gravity of the situation and the urgency for collaborative action.

The state government also declared a public holiday to mark the President’s visit. Relief materials have been deployed to support those who lost their homes and livelihoods in the attack, and local leaders have continued to call for community policing and political solutions to the insecurity crisis. As the President left Benue, the message was clear: “The administration is dedicated to safeguarding the health and well-being of Nigerians and will not relent until peace is restored in Benue and beyond”.
