Veteran Nollywood Actor Femi Branch Accused of Giving a Crew Member “Hot Slap” on Set

Veteran Nollywood actor Femi Branch has found himself at the center of controversy after a video surfaced online showing him allegedly assaulting the assistant director (AD) on a Lagos movie set. The incident reportedly occurred between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM during the eighth day of a nine-day shoot, when filming began before the Director of Photography and AD were ready. The AD, trying to stop the premature shoot, claimed Branch insulted him, saying his “head is incorrect” and then slapped him.

Shock rippled through the crew as witnesses recounted how they supported the AD in solidarity. At the next location at Lekki Conservation Centre, production was halted when Branch attempted to leave without apologizing. Crew members reportedly locked the gate to prevent his departure, insisting he apologize before filming would resume. This impromptu blockade underscored the crew’s unified stance against unprofessional behavior on set.

Under mounting pressure, the actor eventually issued an apology, not only to the AD but to the entire crew after which the shoot recommenced under the AD’s direction. The National Film Crew Community formally commended the crew’s actions, describing their response as a commendable stand against violence and a reaffirmation of respect and civility in the workplace.

The fallout has sparked reflection across the Nigerian film industry about professionalism and respect on set. While this incident may fade as production wraps, the conversation it ignited around crew welfare, conflict resolution, and accountability among high-profile actors continues.
