Fire Erupts at Lagos UBA Branch, Staffs Make Harrowing Escape

A dramatic fire broke out at a United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch located in the Afriland Tower on Broad Street, Lagos Island, on Tuesday afternoon. The blaze, which started around 1:38 p.m., quickly engulfed parts of the six-story building, creating a life-threatening situation for employees inside. In a desperate bid to escape the intense heat and smoke, several staff members were forced to jump from the upper-floor windows. Thankfully, quick-thinking bystanders gathered below to help cushion their falls, preventing what could have been a greater tragedy.

Firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations responded to the emergency and worked swiftly to contain the blaze. Initial reports from the scene indicate that there were no fatalities, a remarkable outcome given the severity of the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The event, captured in viral social media videos, has once again raised serious concerns about fire safety protocols and preparedness in Lagos’s densely packed high-rise financial district.
